Nancy Henderson is an award-winning writer who enjoys pursuing stories that break societal stereotypes and challenge readers to
look at human issues in a new light. During the past 20 years, she has published hundreds of profiles and human-interest features — many related to disability issues — in major periodicals ranging from
Parade, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times to Family Circle, Hemispheres and Southwest Airlines Spirit.
Her first book, Able! How One Company’s Disabled
Workforce Became the Key to Extraordinary Success (BenBella Books) debuted in 2005. It has been featured in Inc., Southwest Airlines Spirit, ABA (American Bar Association) Journal,
Exceptional Parent, Worthwhile and other magazines, as well as a number of disability advocacy websites and newsletters. Nancy speaks about disability hiring issues at business meetings, book signings
and radio stations and has become an expert source for other journalists.
Henderson is a member of The Authors Guild and the American Society of Journalists and Authors. She has won two Print Journalism EDI (Equality, Dignity and Independence) awards from Easter Seals for "raising
awareness of disability issues and encouraging realistic portrayals of people with disabilities," as well as top honors from the National Federation of Press Women, City and Regional Magazine Association, and
other organizations. In 2005, her book Able! received an EP Symbol of Excellence award from Exceptional Parent magazine. Henderson lives in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
