Jon Jeter has been a professional journalist since 1987. He was the Washington Post Bureau Chief for South America from January 2003 to July 2004 and the Post's Bureau Chief for Southern Africa between 1999 and 2003. He was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in 2000 for a series on Africa's AIDS epidemic. Mr. Jeter joined the Post in 1993, writing extensively about social policy, welfare reform, and politics. In 1997 he was named the Post's Midwestern Bureau Chief based in Chicago.

Prior to joining the Post, Mr. Jeter worked for the Detroit Free Press, Minneapolis Star Tribune and St. Petersburg Times. In 1991, he was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize for a Star Tribune series on race.

Originally from Indianapolis, IN., Mr. Jeter is a graduate of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Fl. He was awarded a Knight Fellowship for Professional Journalists at Stanford University for the 2004-2005 academic term. Mr. Jeter's work has also been published in Mother Jones Magazine.
